Direction Sense
Direction Sense - Directions and Distances
Direction sense questions test your ability to track movements and determine final positions and directions.
Basic Directions
Four Main Directions
- North (N): Upward
- South (S): Downward
- East (E): Right
- West (W): Left
Four Sub-Directions
- North-East (NE): Between North and East
- North-West (NW): Between North and West
- South-East (SE): Between South and East
- South-West (SW): Between South and West
Direction Rules
Opposite Directions
- North ↔ South
- East ↔ West
- North-East ↔ South-West
- North-West ↔ South-East
Clockwise Order
N → NE → E → SE → S → SW → W → NW → N
Right/Left Turns
- Facing North: Right = East, Left = West
- Facing South: Right = West, Left = East
- Facing East: Right = South, Left = North
- Facing West: Right = North, Left = South
Shadow Rules
Morning Time (Sun in East)
- Shadow points to West
- Object faces East
Evening Time (Sun in West)
- Shadow points to East
- Object faces West
Problem-Solving Steps
- Draw Initial Position: Mark starting point and direction
- Track Movements: Follow each movement step by step
- Mark Turns: Note right/left turns and new directions
- Calculate Distance: Use Pythagorean theorem for diagonal movements
- Determine Final Direction: From starting point to ending point
